Another historical date in Beatle's lore! It was on this date that the Beatles shared the bill with texas singer, Bruce Channel who was coming of his top ten hit, "Hey! Baby". Worthy of note is the fact that John Lennon was mesmerized by the harmonica playing of Channel bandmember, Delbert McClinton. A fifteen minute impromptu lesson transpired when Lennon asked McClinton to show him how to play the intro to "Hey! Baby". The results of this meeting, of course, can be heard on the group's first Parlophone single, "Love Me Do". Although the song had been rehearsed at their first Parlophone session on June 6, McClinton's influence was unmistakable when the song was recorded on September 11. While it is commonly believed that Channel and the Beatles toured together, their only meeting was at this single Brian Epstein/Bob Wooler promoted event. John had tried his hand at harmonica sporadically since childhood, but not until his meeting with McClinton did John envision it's use in his songwriting and recording.
